This 810-hectare reserve is home to a plethora of endemic fauna and flora, including a variety of orchids and numerous bird species. In the afternoon, explore the V.O.I.I.M.A community reserve, which supports sustainable conservation efforts. Here, you may encounter brown lemurs, indri, chameleons, geckos, and a host of other wildlife.

day 4: highland splendor – andasibe to antsirabe

Drive back to Antananarivo before heading south to Antsirabe, passing through picturesque highland landscapes adorned with rice fields and vegetable gardens. Along the way, we’ll stop in Ambatolampy, known for its agricultural significance and aluminum recycling industry. Arriving in Antsirabe, you’ll find a city reminiscent of European charm, founded by Norwegians in 1856 and known for its temperate climate and vibrant beer industry.

day 5: craftsmanship and nature – antsirabe to ranomafana national park

After breakfast, travel to Ambositra, the heart of Madagascar’s wood carving industry. The highlands’ unique architecture, with brightly colored houses and ornately carved wooden balconies, is a visual delight. Continue through landscapes dominated by rice fields, pine forests, and eucalyptus trees, arriving at Ranomafana National Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning scenery.

Enjoy long walks, spotting lemurs, chameleons, and other unique animals in this biodiverse paradise.

day 7: cultural and scenic highlights – ranomafana to isalo

Depart Ranomafana, stopping near Fianarantsoa for a wine tasting at a local farm (may not be possible over weekends). Visit the Anteimoro Paper Factory in Ambalavao, a remnant of Arabian influence, and participate in a community-based silk weaving project. Journey through the Andringitra mountain chain, with its striking granite domes and cultural landmarks, before arriving in Isalo.

day 8: majestic landscapes – isalo national park

Today, hike through the stunning Isalo National Park, covering 81,540 hectares of eroded sandstone formations. Discover unique flora like the elephant’s foot and endemic species of aloe. The park’s varied landscape includes spectacular rock formations, streams, and an array of wildlife, including sifakas, brown lemurs, and numerous bird species.

Continue to Tuléar, passing through diverse landscapes from dry forests to spiny deserts. Visit unique tombs of the Mahafaly and Antandroy tombs along the way. After a short visit to Tuléar, drive to Ifaty, characterized by its spiny forest and coastal mangroves. Here, the Vezo communities’ fishing traditions offer a glimpse into local life.

day 10: coastal serenity – ifaty

Relax in Ifaty, an ideal spot for diving, snorkeling, and birdwatching. Visit the Reniala Forest to see baobabs and various reptiles or take a boat trip to observe whales (July to mid-September).
