day 1: welcome to the wilderness – arusha, tanzania

Arrive at the airport and be whisked away to your boutique hotel nestled in the verdant forests outside Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the lush grounds, take a refreshing dip in the pool, or partake in any of the additional activities on offer.

day 2: elephants and baobabs – tarangire national park adventure

Your safari adventure begins after breakfast. We make a brief stop in Arusha town for any last-minute purchases before heading off to Tarangire National Park. Enjoy lunch and an afternoon game drive in Tarangire, famous for its massive elephant population and majestic baobab trees. Witness the heart of the migratory cycle, home to thousands of elephants, wildebeest, and zebras.

day 3: flamingo haven – lake manyara national park

Embark on an early morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Nestled at the north-western corner of Lake Manyara, this park is a haven for large flocks of flamingos and the elusive tree-climbing lions. Marvel at the breathtaking landscapes as you explore this unique corner of the Great Rift Valley.

day 4: into the heart of the wild – serengeti via ngorongoro crater

After breakfast, ascend the Rift Valley escarpment towards the renowned Ngorongoro Crater. Home to all of the ‘Big 5’, including a small population of endangered black rhino, the crater offers an unparalleled wildlife spectacle. After a picnic lunch, journey towards the Serengeti through the iconic Southern Plains, famous for their endless grass savannahs and rocky outcrops.

day 5: untamed majesty – seronera, serengeti national park

Spend a full day exploring the Seronera area of the Serengeti. Known for its open grassland plains teeming with wildlife, the Seronera River sustains this region, making it ideal for game viewing year-round. Look out for lions, cheetahs, and the elusive leopards as you traverse this wildlife-rich area.

day 6: echoes of the past – serengeti to ngorongoro and olduvai gorge

Begin your day with a morning game drive through the Serengeti. After a picnic lunch, continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route, visit Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world, known as the cradle of mankind.

Departure:

The tour departs from Arusha. When arriving in Arusha on day one, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your lodge. Should you arrive prior to day one, pre-tour accommodation can be arranged and you will be picked up from your hotel on the morning of day.

After breakfast on day 2, there will be a pre-departure meeting presented by your guide at your accommodation. It is imperative that all clients attend this meeting so as not to miss out on any critical information.

Whilst it is our every intention to adhere to the above mentioned itinerary, there may on occasion be a necessity to make alterations in order to make the tour more enjoyable or practical. Therefore please treat the itinerary as a guide only.

Transport:

Planet Africa uses fully equipped, customised, 4×4 safari vehicles, Toyota Land Cruisers, or other appropriate vehicles with comfortable seating, all window seats for game viewing and a music system. These non-air-conditioned vehicles are equipped with pop-up roofs to facilitate the best game viewing. All luggage, besides hand luggage and photo equipment, is carried on the vehicle roof rack or trailer to ensure maximum comfort in the vehicle.

Travelling times and distance:

All travelling times are affected by road conditions, border crossings, detours and weather conditions, therefore on certain days travelling times may be longer than anticipated especially where there is a lot of distance to be covered. Please keep in mind that the time it takes to travel 100 km in your home country is not equivalent to the time it takes to travel 100 km on African roads, therefore we encourage you to sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery Africa has to offer. Where possible additional stops will be made to ensure your travelling comfort at all times.

Accommodation:

For this accommodated safari, we make use of mid-range lodge accommodation. Your accommodation is situated either in National Parks, on the banks of a river, or in other places of interest. The accommodation will be a mix of lodges, chalets and permanent tented chalets with en-suite facilities. Some properties are equipped with swimming pools and/or bar areas.

Meals:

Breakfast and dinner will be prepared by the lodge where you are staying. They will also prepare lunch or a lunch pack depending on the itinerary for the day. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements in advance.

Documentation
